For most people, the only way to overcome drug addiction is to seek professional drug treatment. Recovery is fostered by drug rehabilitation through offering those who have a drug addiction problem with the following benefits:

Personalized Treatment Plans: Physical exams, psychological assessments and diagnostic testing are performed by drug rehab programs to help ensure that patients receive drug treatment that is specially tailored for them. Adjustments are made to core therapies in order to work with specific chemical dependency durations, drugs of choice, personal histories and individual learning styles to ensure that recovery is successful.

Family and Group Therapy Sessions: Support, input and peer empathy are received by patients through participating in process groups and 12-step meetings. Since family relationships frequently suffer from and contribute to the substance abuse of a patient, a majority of drug treatment programs include family therapy sessions now as one of their core components.

Individualized Therapy: Drug addiction’s psychological aspects gets addressed via one-on-one therapy session, whose purpose is to uncover the emotional reasons for an individual’s substance abuse. Transitional Planning: The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) reports that 40 to 60 percent of individuals who face drug addiction will end up relapsing. Transitional planning makes it possible for patients to work with addiction specialists to anticipate – and find solutions proactively for – possible drug use temptations following treatment. Assessments are made of interpersonal, career, social and environmental triggers, and patients are provided with referrals for 12-step groups, physicians and therapists to provide support and encouragement throughout the ongoing recovery process.

Aftercare Services: Most of the current best practices from the field of drug rehabilitation treatment include aftercare services, with the goal of following up patients even once they have graduated from a recovery program. Online or telephone support networks, alumni events and check-in calls all help alumni to continue with their recovery process after after they have relocated back to their homes. “Shadowing” or sober companionship services are even offered by some drug rehab programs for an additional fee. This enables recovering addicts to get one-on-one guidance and support as part of their new found sobriety.

Opiate addiction and Heroin abuse and addiction in Vancouver

How do we get control of this problem? Outpatient programs can help. If you are having difficulty getting control of your heroin addiction, enrolling in an intensive program may help you to regain control of your life. In part, these programs help to establish healthy habits.

Patients in these programs learn about schedules and how to break habits that may eventually cause them to use drugs again. Administrators set up meetings that participants must go to. These meetings are scheduled and they help, in part, by changing the addict’s daily life. With heroin in particular, this is an essential component that leads to recovery.

The Role Of Evidence Based Techniques

“Evidenced based techniques” is a phrase that you are likely to hear if you enroll in a British Columbia outpatient program. In part, these techniques include things like peer group therapy. Getting people in the addict’s circle of friends and family involved in the program is also important. This is because these individuals are often essential to helping the addict change their habits in a positive way. It also helps the individual realize that they have a support system that they can turn to if things become difficult for them, particularly when they are not participating in the program.

Naloxone Approved and Delisted by Health Canada for Vancouver, BC, and Calgary, Alberta and Other Cities in Canada

Drug Addiction Treatment For Opiate, OxyContin And Oxycodone in Vancouver, British Columbia by Options Okanagan Treatment Center in Kelowna, British Columbia treating Opiate addiction and recovery

Health Canada has delisted the opiate blocker naloxone. Once naloxone is delisted, individual provinces will determine whether or not a prescription is required for the purchase of the drug.

Naloxone has been an overdose reversing drug used by medical personnel to help prevent opiate induced deaths due to overdose. This medication helps to block opiates from entering the bloodstream.

Naloxone - Individuals Living with OxyContin Addiction in Calgary, Alberta

Advocates and health groups across Canada have been working diligently to get the medication delisted after the numerous fatalities that have been linked to several street drugs containing fentanyl. They believe making naloxone readily available will help prevent deaths.

According to the world Health Organization, Naloxone may help decrease the number of overdose related deaths once it becomes readily available. Health Canada reported the change based on the finding from a consultation period that took place in mid-January. Naloxone kits will be distributed to homeless shelters across the Vancouver Metro area.

NA and NA Group Meetings on Drugs - Frequently Asked Questions – Vancouver, British Columbia - Options Okanagan Treatment Center for OxyContin Addiction

Health Canada has removed naloxone from the federal list of prescription medications, leaving the decision to make it available without a prescription up to individual provinces.

During the consultation period, numerous groups were consulted, including patient organizations, physicians and pharmacists. All of the 130 responses received by the ministry were in favor of the change.

The most common comments to Health Canada was that there needed to be a more user-friendly method of delivering the medication. Currently, the only way the drug can be administered is through injection. The nasal spray form is not yet available in Canada.

Individuals Living with OxyContin addiction in Vancouver

Naloxone works quickly, restoring breathing within five minutes.

In 2009, there were only 29 deaths related to fentanyl overdose. In 2014, this number spiked to almost 900, states Canada’s Centre of Substance Abuse.

The decision to delist naloxone has ben met with positive approval in Canada.

Many doctors recommend that Health Canada should work to get the nasal spray naloxone approved for over the counter sales as well.

They state that using syringes can be off-putting to certain individuals; approving an intranasal formula would make it easier on those with no medical training to deliver the medication. However, it is important to note that naloxone is not a cure-all and should not be treated as such, state physicians.

In addition to delisting naloxone, there needs to be addiction care for these individuals suffering from opiate addiction. In order to detox from opiates, patients often require long-term care, psychological counseling and lifestyle management.

Fentanyl Injection Kits for Opiate addiction and Fentanyl abuse and addiction in Vancouver, BC

Addictions to Fentanyl are about much more than having the urge to take the drug. Like many other chronic conditions out there, this is a serious medical disorder. The ultimate goal of treatment is to wean someone completely off the drug. There are treatment programs in Vancouver to help people overcome their addiction. Many falsely believe that addiction only involves a physical use of a drug. It is hard for them to be treated successfully when they have no faith in any of the options available to them.

The reality is that Fentanyl addiction may take some time to defeat, but it is possible. Finding a provider in the area who is well qualified is essential, especially when an addict opts for home treatment. This is a very effective and convenient option. Addicts don’t have to check themselves into a special clinic in order to get help. In addition, being in a rehab facility can be a bit restrictive for some people.

When professionals approach treatment from this angle, there is a good chance that things will turn out positively. It is important to note that home treatment is more effective with some people than receiving help at a designated treatment center. This type of treatment is comfortable and totally discreet.

The local government in the Vancouver area allows people to be treated at home as long as they are under a doctor’s care. Some people are reluctant to check themselves into a facility, so giving them the option to be treated at home is great. This sometimes helps reduce the number of withdrawal symptoms that are experienced.

According to the Police, today three people a woman in her twenties, a man of 24 and another man of 35 died of Fentanyl overdoses.

Going through detox will help decrease the number of Fentanyl cravings you experience. Research has shown that treatment at home can be just as effective as receiving long term care at a rehab or other clinical setting.

Treating this addiction at home begins with the patient visiting a medical facility and setting up a treatment plan. This includes altering the amount of Fentanyl you take. A comprehensive screening is performed in order to make sure the patient is ready for the first dose of buprenorphine. The first few days are critical if you want treatment to be a success. The patient is ready to go into recovery from the drug when there were health care professionals.

While the treatment plan is being followed, it is a good idea for the patient to be close to their provider. This will help them live a normal life. It will also help when it comes to reducing anxiety. It is also imperative for the patient to be in aftercare, so they don’t slip and become lost again. A provider should be contacted right away if there are signs that the patient has relapsed.

Drug Fentanyl Overdose Victim’s Father Blames Dealers

A father of one of the overdose victims in Victoria said that drug dealers should be blamed for the suspected drug overdose deaths, and that the drug users should not be blamed for the deaths in the capital city. Lang said the drug itself killed his daughter and it wasn’t his daughter who decided to administrate the drugs that caused her death. He also said that drug dealers should stop. He pleaded that they would just stop dealing drugs.

In the last 10 days, Porter is just one of eight people who have died of a suspected overdose. In two different incidents, two people have died, but they were not identified. Another victim is Brad John, whose body was discovered in a homeless camp.

Toxicology reports came back, but for one case. Officials believe that existing street drugs mixed with an opioid painkiller have been created. This means people who use the drug is putting themselves at an even higher risk of overdosing.

Since the deaths, more and more calls of supervised injection sites have been going on. An advocate for such sites, Darrin Murphy, said that drug users wouldn’t be found dead if such services were available to users, and those people would still be alive. Also, the painkiller, Fentanyl, have been the subject of alerts by various health officials in Great Victoria, as well as Vancouver and the surroundings area.

Men Living with Fentanyl addiction in Vancouver

There is an injection site in Vancouver, and it’s called Insite, which the federal government oversees. It responded to to the calls by hinting that it is in favor of such service. This is in contrast to the previous government, which was not a fan of Insite.

Jane Philpott said in a statement that they believe in decision making that is based on evidence, and that such sites have the potential to reduce the dangers that come along with using drugs and abusing them. She also said that the sites potentially work when they are properly managed. The truth is it is too late for Lang’s family, but these talks do bring hope to those who suffer from drug addiction.

Fentanyl is a fast acting narcotic that can deliver heroin like effects in a short amount of time. The drug itself cannot be detected to any of the five senses until it has been introduced to the body, most often this is done transdermally through a skin patch.

When a Vancouver pharmacy was relieved of its percocet supplies under duress, the Vancouver police began to fear that a counterfeit- percocet wave was about to hit the illicit substance market in Vancouver.

“They resemble your every day aspirin” said a Vancouver police spokesperson describing the generic Percocet counterpart , Percocets are laced with fentanyl.

Fentanyl and the effects it is having is becoming a serious problem . Police are finding evidence of fentanyl every where they look, cocaine, fake prescription drugs, heroin and even recreational party drugs.

Because it is not detectable to the senses until ingested in some way, very few people who end up taking it knew they were taking it in the beginning.

The most recent case occurred on Wednesday when a 50 year old man died of a fentanyl overdose.

The point here is that anyone using and abusing unregulated drugs is quite possibly putting themselves in a life threatening situation. Fentanyl is a potent drug, 100 times more so than morphine and over 50 times as strong as pharmaceutical grade Heroin

The Vancouver urge the populace to never attempt this drug on your own and to call 911 immediately if they see or know of anyone who maybe at risk.

Denial and Drug Addiction In Vancouver, BC – The First Step Towards Recovery – Options Okanagan

Denial and addictions, and the first steps toward recovery in Vancouver, British Columbia by Options Okanagan Treatment Center in Kelowna, British Columbia treating drug and alcohol addiction and recovery.

One of the biggest issues that a lot of addicts in Vancouver have when it comes to recovering is simply admitting that there is an issue in the first place. Denial is a major defence mechanism for a lot of addicts – it serves to protect them so that they do not have to face up to their addiction.

Alcohol addiction and drug abuse and addiction in Vancouver

When someone is confronted about their addiction they are likely to refuse to discuss it. This is not because they are lying, but rather because they simply do not realise that it is a serious problem. Over time, as the addiction starts to interfere with more parts of their life, they may begin to recognize the issue.

Denial is sometimes a form of coping mechanism that protects the psyche of the addict. They may even, deep down, fear that their addictiona is causing problems, but they will shut down and deny the issue rather than face the problems.

People Living with Alcohol addiction in Vancouver

Fear is a major motivator for this. They do not want other people to find out about their addiction because they are worried about the shame and the consequences. They do not want to have to try to stop taking whatever they are addicted to, because they are scared that they will fail. Therefore, they try to live the way they always have, and just ignore the addiction.

If the addict pretends that there is no issue, then they don’t have to worry about the pain, conflict, stress and physical struggles associated with beating the addiction. They hope that they will “get away with” the addiction for longer – as long as no-one bothers them about it, they convince themselves that they will be fine.

AA and NA Group Meetings on Meth and Alcohol - Frequently Asked Questions – Vancouver, British Columbia - Options Okanagan Treatment Center for Meth Addiction

On the outside, as a healthy person looking at an addict, it is clear that this is not true – but addicts are not thinking clearly. There are actual chemical changes that take place in the minds of addicts, and that stop the addict from being able to see the truth. It is not their fault, and they need help to work through this. Do not blame them for what they are going through – support them as they try to find ways to cope with it.

Addiction is hard to cope with, but it is possible. If you can enlist the help of a good therapist or rehab center, addiction can be beaten.
