However, when the drugs are abused, there is a tendency of the drug being addictive. Such addiction tends to origin from innocent uses of the prescription drugs. For instance, a doctor may prescribe a drug to treat pain resulting from injuries. However, the individual in question may get used to the euphoric feeling that the pain meds yields and start using them for the getting the euphoric sensation. Over time, addiction sets in, and the individual becomes dependent on the drug on a daily basis.

Canada Prescription Drugs Addition

Unfortunately, addiction to prescription drugs is a far too common phenomenon in Canada. The stats relating to this topic indicate that all is not well. Consider this; Canada is the leading country in the world when it comes to prescription drugs consumption. This stats are pointers to an increasing consumption of prescription drugs, far beyond consumption for medical purposes.

People Living with Prescription Drug addiction in Vancouver

In the years between 2002 and 2004, there was a 1 percent increase each year in the consumption of medical drugs among adults. The increase is not due to deterioration of health but rather due to increased instances of prescription drugs abuse. More recently, a study ranked Canada as 4th among the countries with the highest number of prescription drug abusers.

A very good example that illustrates the dire situation we find ourselves in, the number of people abusing the prescription drug Dilaudid in 2002 was higher than the number of people abusing heroin. This just shows that more people are turning to prescription drugs to get their ‘kick’ rather than the traditional illegal narcotics. Furthermore, by 2005 prescription drug dependency as by far more common than dependency on marijuana.

With the dependency starting in hospitals, it is easy to see why addiction to prescription drugs is a common phenomenon.

What is a Drug and Opiate Addiction?

Drug and substance dependancy is recognized by unmanageable drug consumption with no thought or concept of what the consequences and outcomes may be. This addiction or dependancy is portrayed as a brain disorder that can be beat with suitable treatment and therapy. One of the most difficult forms of destructive addictions to triumph over is an opiate addiction. All those who are addicted to opiates will do pretty much anything at all to get their hands on these prescription drugs, including theft, doctor shopping and other illegal pursuits.

Medical Supervision 24/7 to Ensure Your Safety and Comfort

Opiate addiction is thought to be one of the most difficult addictions to overcome. The withdrawal process is hard. Because of the damage that opiates are doing to the body, it is essential that you overcome this addiction and begin living your life and getting healthy. It should be understood that withdrawing off opiates is dangerous and should not be undertaken without medical supervision.

Opiate withdrawal symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and sweating. Furthermore, severe dehydration can occur because the patient will not have any desire to ingest fluids. Dehydration is dangerous to the body; however, an IV can help prevent dehydration from occurring. Our staff understands the risks and will ensure that you are hydrated throughout the detoxification process.

Another common thing that happens during treatment is cardiovascular issues. As the body detoxifies from opiates, the patient’s heart rate may increase. If the patient is not under medical supervision, it can cause damage to the heart and even death. With our inpatient opiate addiction treatment center, any of these symptoms will be quickly treated by a trained medical staff that is dedicated to their patients’ health and well-being.

Comprehensive Care – A Part of the Opiate Addiction Treatment Program

Although most treatment centers understand the importance of a trained medical staff, many do not realize that the residential program is just as important. We offer a comprehensive treatment option, complete with holistic care to ensure the body, mind and spirit are cared for throughout the addiction treatment process.

Overcoming an opiate addiction involves more than just detoxifying the body. It also includes nutrition. A residential treatment program will include nutritious foods to help ensure that the patient is receiving the nutrients he/she needs throughout the addiction treatment process. Additionally, we make it easy for each of our patients to improve their fitness during the detoxification and treatment program.

What Drug Treatment Options In Vancouver, BC Are Available for Opiate Addiction?

What drug treatment options in Vancouver, Kelowna or Victoria are available for Opiate addiction and Opiate abuse? By Options Okanagan Treatment Center in Kelowna, British Columbia treating opiate, drug and alcohol addiction and recovery.

Part 1

What is a Drug Addiction?

Drug addiction is characterized by uncontrollable drug usage with no thought of what the consequences may be. This addiction is characterized as a brain disease that can be overcome with proper treatment. One of the hardest types of addictions to overcome is an opiate addiction. Those who are addicted to opiates will do almost anything to get their hands on these drugs, including theft, doctor shopping and other illegal activities.

Opiate addiction and drug abuse and addiction in Vancouver

Opiates are prescription strength medications that are used to treat pain. Although most people follow their doctor’s orders and take the medication as prescribed, there is a rise in the number of opiate addictions. Studies estimate that between 24 and 36 million are addicted to opiates.

When opiates are used long-term, a drug dependency can occur. The most common reason for an opiate addiction is the patient develops a tolerance to the dose prescribed to them by their doctor. When this occurs, the patient will need more and more of the drug to experience the same pain relieving effects.

People Living with Drug addiction in Vancouver

What is Involved in Opiate Detoxification Treatment?

The first step to overcoming an opiate addiction is detoxification. This can be an unpleasant experience to addicts. They may experience abdominal cramping, muscle aches, sweats and more during the detoxification process.

Luckily there are a number of treatment options that can help make the detoxification process easier for the patient to handle. One such option is medication. These medications not only ease the symptoms associated with detoxification and withdrawal, but they also decrease the length of time the symptoms are experienced.

A treatment center for opiate addiction helps ensure the detoxification process is safe for the patient. If a problem occurs, a medical professional is available to assist the patient. This is why an inpatient addiction treatment is the best choice for those who are trying to overcome an opiate addiction.

Men Living with Drug addiction in Vancouver

What are the Dangers Associated with Quitting Cold Turkey?

Trying to quit an opiate addiction cold turkey is very dangerous because of the common symptoms experienced during the detoxification process. Although many people think they can quit on their own to save money, this is not an option. The risk to the patient far outweighs the cost associated with opiate addiction treatment.

When a patient tries to quit cold turkey, they will go through the withdrawal symptoms alone. Even if a patient has a supportive family, the addict will not have the necessary medical attention that is needed to safely detox from opiates. An opiate addiction treatment center works with the patient to help eliminate the symptoms of opiate withdrawal and keeps the patient safe. If a person does not have proper medical care during detoxification, they can experience significant health issues and even death.

Understanding Opioid Dependence And Addiction In Vancouver, BC – Part 2 – Options Okanagan

What You Need To Know About Opioid Addiction In Vancouver, BC – Part 2 – Options Okanagan

Private Luxury Drug Rehab Treatment Centers

Understanding Opioid Dependence and Addiction

The terms addiction and dependence can be used interchangeably. A person who is dependent on the drug suffers from a psychological and physical need for the drug, and that’s why opioid addiction treatment is imperative. Such an individual will exhibit behavior that’s termed to be compulsive despite the harm that’s obviously visible.

Individuals Living with Drug addiction in Vancouver

Of course, the person can’t stop abusing the drugs regardless of the fact that he/she is doing harm to himself/herself and the people around. He/she will start having cravings and lose control entirely. That means the individual will feel an overwhelming and intense desire to take the drug. Also, he/she will have a hard time refusing to take the drug or controlling the dosage thus becoming compulsive.

People who are addicted to opioids display the following behaviors.

• Denial – He/she refuses to get treatment for the addiction because he/she assumes that the problem doesn’t exist.

• Uncontrollable use such that the individual takes more than the recommended usage

• Wasting too much time obtaining the drugs, abusing them and recovering from abuse.

• Ignoring important daily tasks such as work, school or family care to abuse the drugs.

• A persistent desire to quit that has been met by many unsuccessful attempts to do so.

• Continually using the drugs, despite harming oneself, family relationships, health issues and also affecting the job.
Physical Dependence

An individual is physically dependent on the drug if he/she exhibits tolerance. It refers to the fact that the person has to take more than the regular dosage to get the same effect. Also, the individual will exhibit withdrawal symptoms if he/she stops taking the drugs.

Children Living with Drug addiction in Vancouver

Many people who seek treatment for addiction to opioids display some sort of physical dependence. However, such a state can’t be used entirely to diagnose an individual of addiction. An individual suffering from a chronic illness such as cancer might be physically dependent on the drug but not become addicted to it. That’s because the opioids are prescribed for the severe pain such an individual might be experiencing.

Some patients are also susceptible to developing a pseudo addiction, once they are treated for chronic pain conditions using opioids. Such individuals will exhibit the same symptoms if they don’t get relief from the medication. If the pain is controlled, the addiction behaviors will disappear. In that case, opioid addiction treatment isn’t imperative rather the patients should get better pain management treatment.

Treatment For Fentanyl Abuse And Fentanyl Kills In Vancouver, BC – Options Okanagan

Treatment For Fentanyl Abuse and the addiction to Fentanyl is a Major DEADLYdrug issue in 2016 in Vancouver and other parts of BC by Options Okanagan Treatment Center in Kelowna, British Columbia treating drug addiction and recovery.

If you or someone that you know has been abusing Fentanyl, you should know that the symptoms of withdrawal can be both unpleasant and uncomfortable. This is what makes treating the addiction so difficult for so many people.

According to the Police, today three people a woman in her twenties, a man of 24 and another man of 35 died of Fentanyl overdoses.

With the first step, a patient must go through a detox program to help the body get rid of the drug. However, this is a step that should be done through an addiction treatment center or some sort of rehabilitation facility to make sure that it is safe. This process will include a number of medical techniques that will allow the user to hopefully eliminate the addiction.

The treatment plan will have to address social, behavioral and psychological aspects in order for the detoxification profess to be a success. To do so, there needs to be a combination of counseling sessions and a variety of proven therapies to help the patient work through their addiction step by step.

Opiate addiction and Fentanyl abuse in Vancouver, BC and Calgary, Alberta

Fentanyl KILLS Headlines In Local Newspapers

Programs for Fentanyl abuse will start off with a patient evaluation that helps to establish the severity of the addiction and what side effects may have already had an impact on the body. Some centers will work to stabilize the patient by administering the medications that will help to cut back on the mental and physical symptoms. Substitute therapies are a great way of starting such a plan, which may include drugs like Subutex or Suboxone.

There is a fine line that has to be taken into consideration as these drugs can also lead to an addiction if not careful. This is why it is recommended that such a detoxification process be carefully monitored by a medical professional to ensure the safety and best interests of the patient at all times.

Natural detoxification methods can be a bit more difficult to handle, however there are not that many adverse side effects. This will usually include natural remedies and herbals that will target the withdrawal effects of the Fentanyl. During this time, it may be necessary for the patient to rink plenty of fluids for flushing toxins and keeping the body hydrated.

Victoria, BC – Drug Fentanyl Overdose Victim’s Father Blames Dealers – Options Okanagan

Drug Fentanyl Overdose Victim’s Father Blames Dealers

A father of one of the overdose victims in Victoria said that drug dealers should be blamed for the suspected drug overdose deaths, and that the drug users should not be blamed for the deaths in the capital city. Debbie Porter, the daughter of Fred Lang, was found dead in an apartment that she rented in Langford, B.C. back on December 22. She was a frequent drug user, but she was also suffering with bipolar disorder.

People Living with Fentanyl addiction in Vancouver

It’s worth pointing out that the spate of overdose deaths have renewed the call for an injection site, which would be supervised. Not only that, but suspected overdose deaths is 8 per week in Greater Victoria. Furthermore, within the last 24 hours, Vancouver drug overdose deaths rise to four.

Asides from Debbie Porter, a number of others have died in the Greater Victoria Area, and the suspected overdoses are being blamed for those deaths. Lang said his daughter was seeking out treatment. He added that those who are dealing drugs are the ones who should be blamed.

NA and NA Group Meetings on Drugs - Frequently Asked Questions – Vancouver, British Columbia - Options Okanagan Treatment Center for Fentanyl Addiction

Lang said the drug itself killed his daughter and it wasn’t his daughter who decided to administrate the drugs that caused her death. He also said that drug dealers should stop. He pleaded that they would just stop dealing drugs.

In the last 10 days, Porter is just one of eight people who have died of a suspected overdose. In two different incidents, two people have died, but they were not identified. Another victim is Brad John, whose body was discovered in a homeless camp.

Toxicology reports came back, but for one case. Officials believe that existing street drugs mixed with an opioid painkiller have been created. This means people who use the drug is putting themselves at an even higher risk of overdosing.

Since the deaths, more and more calls of supervised injection sites have been going on. An advocate for such sites, Darrin Murphy, said that drug users wouldn’t be found dead if such services were available to users, and those people would still be alive. Also, the painkiller, Fentanyl, have been the subject of alerts by various health officials in Great Victoria, as well as Vancouver and the surroundings area.

Men Living with Fentanyl addiction in Vancouver

There is an injection site in Vancouver, and it’s called Insite, which the federal government oversees. It responded to to the calls by hinting that it is in favor of such service. This is in contrast to the previous government, which was not a fan of Insite.

Jane Philpott said in a statement that they believe in decision making that is based on evidence, and that such sites have the potential to reduce the dangers that come along with using drugs and abusing them. She also said that the sites potentially work when they are properly managed. The truth is it is too late for Lang’s family, but these talks do bring hope to those who suffer from drug addiction.

End Opiate Addiction With The Help Of MLB Jose Canseco In Vancouver – BC Super Draft

Let’s end Opiate addiction and Fentanyl abuse with the help of Major League Baseball Star Jose Canseco at the BC Super Draft in April.

On April 2nd, 2016, there is going to be a unique alliance as baseball superstar Jose Canseco and international supermodel Leila Knight team up with the Andy Bhatti Intervention and Addiction Services and Options Addiction Treatment Center to help spread the word about Opiate addiction.

Opiate addiction and Fentanyl abuse in Vancouver, BC

Over the past three years, Opiate addictions have risen by 200 percent in Calgary, Vancouver, and the rest of Canada. In fact, Canada is one of the world’s second largest per capita amount of opioid users and the dangers are becoming quite clear. Reports from 2009 to 2015 have shown that over 1000 Canadians have died as a result of taking fentanyl, which is a powdered opioid that is available through a prescription. This can be easily found on the streets as well as local drug labs. The dangers of fentanyl should be taken seriously as it is more powerful than heroin and morphine. Physicians use fentanyl for patients who are dealing with excessive pain after an accident or surgery.

People Living with Opiate Fentanyl addiction in Vancouver, BC

Here Is What The Doctors Do Not Tell You

What many people do not realize is that opiates are simply are a pharmaceutical form of heroin. As you take these drugs for a week or so, your body begins to build up an immunity to the drug. Physicians usually do not tell patients how addictive these drugs can be nor how hard they are to come off from. One best ways to come off of strong opiates like fentanyl is to have a physician prescribe suboxone or methadone while under the close supervision of a treatment center.

Once your physician is informed of your addiction, they will typically remove you from the medication. However, this is when most patients resort to buying pills from street vendors. Quite simply, they have no other choice in the matter at this point. Typically, they resort to these methods as their way of just surviving from day to day. At this point, they have become addicted to the opiates and their bodies believe they need it or will shut down.

Men Living with Fentanyl addiction in Vancouver, BC

On April 2nd, our goal is to raise the awareness of this problem and let individuals and families know that there is help available from the Andy Bhatti Intervention and Addiction Services. It is best to give us a call today to book an intervention before things get worse.

Addiction is a disease that not only affects the individual but the entire family and community around them.

Fentanyl has become the most dangerous prescription in Canada that is killing people we know and love.

Think of it this way: an intervention is less expensive than a funeral.

You can find Jose Conseco playing slow-pitch and signing autographs on Saturday, April 2nd in Exhibition Park located at Abbotsford British Columbia. There are also going to be plenty of prizes available during the silent auction and chances to have your picture taken with Jose Canseco as well. A great deal of alcoholics and addicts are afraid that once they are sober and clean, their lives will end up being mundane and boring. They always live with the fear that they will never find comfort while engaging in social events or activities with alcohol or other drugs to join in the celebration. Although it can be provoking at the beginning, the more opportunities a recovering individual takes to take part in leisure activities, either in a group or alone, the more comfortable he or she becomes.

Opiate addiction and drug abuse and addiction in Vancouver

In most cases, addiction is an ailment of isolation. Many alcoholics and drug addicts have created a gap with their friends and family members with their addiction. In addition, they end up in treat all alone. At Options Okanagan, we greatly believe in experimental therapy as being one of the best ways to teach an addict how to take part in life, rebuild broken relationships and learn to have fun after getting to sobriety. Experimental therapy usually entails active participation in extracurricular activities such as biking, hiking, boating, attending sporting events, snowboarding and skiing. As individuals take part in these activities regularly, they combat the belief that sobriety is dull and boring. At the end of it all, they discover that there is more fun in being sober than in drinking.

People Living with Drug addiction in Vancouver

We have a strong belief that learning to have fun in sobriety is important for long term recovery of alcoholics and drug addicts. This involves learning to live a life based on some twelve stages that involve indulging in a fellowship meant to offer support at all times. Any individual who undertakes this treatment but lacks an experience in bonding with other people and having fun while sober is less likely to remain sober. The fellowship by itself can be a foundation that motivates an individual’s willingness to take part in program recovery.

Challenging the addict’s false belief that life being sober is not fulfilling or worth living is essential. If we struggle to accomplish this when a client is under treatment, then we are offering the recovering individual a taste of all the joys that life can bring along when one remains sober. Individuals are taught to increase self-esteem, practice life skills, alleviate stress with the use of positive coping methods and building healthy relationships. Depending on an individual’s treatment goals, the groups can be gender integrated or specific.
